Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and younes EL MAZGUALDI ("we", "us"), the developer of the Elicit AI – Scientific Research app ("Elicit AI" or "the app"). By creating an account or using the app you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. The service
Elicit AI helps you search the scientific literature, read and annotate papers, upload PDFs, chat with documents, extract data, generate reports, run systematic-review screening and monitor topics with routines. Results come from public scholarly databases and from AI models; the app shows the source of every claim so that you can verify it. We may add, change or remove features, and we may limit how often a feature can be used to keep the service reliable for everyone.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age for digital services where you live) and, to purchase a subscription, old enough to enter a binding contract or have your parent or guardian's permission. You sign in with Sign in with Apple; keep your Apple Account secure, because anyone who can use it can use your Elicit AI account. One account per person; you may not share, sell or transfer it. You are responsible for everything done through your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.
3. Subscriptions and payment
Elicit AI is a subscription service. An active Elicit Pro subscription, purchased through the Apple App Store, is required to use its features. Without one you can sign in, view the available plans, and manage or delete your account.

Prices in other countries are set by Apple in local currency and shown before you buy. All plans include the same features; plans differ only in billing period and price. We do not currently offer a free trial.
Auto-renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period at the price of your plan. You can manage or cancel your subscription in the app (Settings → Subscription) or in your Apple Account settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period already paid for. Unused allowances do not carry over between periods.
Refunds. Purchases are made from Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under App Store rules; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
Limits. Each plan includes generous but finite usage limits (for example searches per day, research questions per month, uploaded storage and OCR pages). Current limits are shown in the app under Usage. We may adjust them with notice in the app. Features may also be paused for maintenance.
Price changes. If we change a price, Apple will notify you and ask for your consent where the law or App Store rules require it before the new price applies.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the app to break the law or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright;
- upload documents you do not have the right to use, or use the app to redistribute publishers' content in breach of their licences;
- use automated tools to scrape, bulk-download or overload the service, bypass usage limits, or share one subscription across multiple people;
- probe, reverse-engineer or interfere with the app or our servers, or attempt to access other users' data;
- submit content that is unlawful, malicious (including malware) or that seeks to make the AI produce harmful output;
- present AI-generated text as peer-reviewed findings or as your own original research without checking it.
We may suspend or restrict accounts that violate these rules.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to the PDFs, notes, questions and other content you add. You give us the limited licence needed to store, process, display and transmit it to the providers described in our Privacy Policy so that the app can work for you. You are responsible for having the rights to anything you upload. We do not claim ownership of the answers, reports or tables the app generates for you; you may use them, subject to the licences of the underlying sources and section 7.
6. Third-party content
Paper metadata, abstracts, citation data and open-access full text are retrieved from OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, Europe PMC, arXiv, ClinicalTrials.gov, Semantic Scholar, Unpaywall and the publishers themselves, under their respective terms and licences. Coverage and accuracy depend on those sources; some papers are available only as abstracts or metadata, and the app tells you when that is the case. Links to publisher sites and the documents you open there are governed by those sites' terms.
7. AI output
Answers, summaries, extractions, suggested screening decisions and reports are produced by machine-learning models. They may be incomplete, outdated or wrong, and may misread a source. The app shows the sources behind each claim and marks where a claim rests only on an abstract or metadata; you must verify anything you rely on. Elicit AI does not provide medical, legal, financial or other professional advice, and nothing it produces should be used to make decisions about diagnosis, treatment or safety without consulting a qualified professional and the primary sources. Systematic-review suggestions are aids only; screening decisions remain yours.
8. Our intellectual property
The app, its design, software and documentation belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, in line with these terms and Apple's App Store terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or lease any part of the app.
9. Termination
You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time (Settings → Delete account). We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service, in which case we will give reasonable notice where possible. Sections 5 to 13 survive termination.
10. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or that results will be complete or correct. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, research outcomes or reputation, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us through the App Store in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect and update the date above. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, stop using the app and cancel your subscription.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Morocco, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes are subject to the courts of Morocco, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence gives you the right to use your local law and courts.
14. Apple
The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the App Store Terms of Service.
